Durban - The Ulundi Regional Court on Friday convicted and sentenced a 37-year-old man to an effective ten years imprisonment for raping his 19-year-old cousin, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

At about 8pm on March 15, the man entered his cousin’s room at Esizilo in KwaCeza and asked what she would do if he raped her, spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said in a statement on Saturday.

“The victim told him that she will scream. He then threatened to harm her baby if she screams. He then forcefully undressed and raped her.”

The following day the matter was reported to Ceza police station and the man was arrested. The case docket was transferred to the Ulundi family violence, child protection, and sexual offences unit for further investigation.

“An intensive investigation was conducted and the accused was found guilty and sentenced accordingly,” Zwane said.
