Johannesburg -

A 35-year-old man has been handed a 16 year jail term for the rape of a 13-year-old girl, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday.

On Friday, the Vryheid Regional Court convicted and sentenced Neho Tsotetsi for the 2012 rape, Colonel Jay Naicker said.

On July 20 of that year, the girl was walking with friends when Tsotetsi dragged her into a bush at knife point and raped her.

“After an intensive investigation Tsotetsi was arrested two days later and charged for rape.”

Provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended members of the Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for their thorough investigation and putting Tsotetsi behind bars.

“Our members will ensure that those who take advantage of young children are brought to book.

“Predators such as Tsotetsi have no place in our society,” she said.
