Durban - A man was sentenced to life imprisonment for three rapes by the Esikhawini Regional Court, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.
Bhekani Nzuza, 28, got life imprisonment for three counts of rape, 10 years imprisonment for two sexual assaults, and five years for theft, Major Thulani Zwane said in a statement.
The sentences would run concurrently.
Nzuza raped a 16-year-old girl at knifepoint in Ntambanana on May 12, 2012 and stole her cellphone. He was arrested seven days later.
Provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni praised police for their hard work.
“The SAPS will continue with its mandate to ensure that justice is served by making sure that the perpetrators are locked behind the bars for a very long time,” she said.
