Johannesburg - Two men, allegedly part of a gang conducting armed robberies at shops and supermarkets across KwaZulu-Natal, have been arrested, police said on Saturday.

In one incident, four robbers held up workers at gunpoint at a butchery in Bridge City before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.

When the alleged ringleader was arrested at KwaMashu Hostel on Saturday morning, he was also found in possession of an unlicensed Rossi .38 special with five rounds of ammunition.

The other man, aged 36, was arrested when the Mercedes Benz he was travelling in was stopped and searched in Section E, KwaMashu, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
