Lenasia outage blamed on cable theft

A bakkie containg stolen copper cable was confiscated in an early morning raid on a scrap metal dealer near Riverlea ,Johannesburg ,The raid was part of a joint operation with JHB Metro police and City Power of Johannesburg. The Media were invited by 'City Power' of Johannesburg to accompany them on various raids throughout Johannesburg with the assistance of the Metro police. Johannesburg - Cable theft caused a major power interruption in Lenasia on Friday, City Power said.

“City Power officials are currently in the area and have started replacing stolen cables,” said spokesman Sol Masolo.

He said the cables were stolen at the Lenasia substation, and the affected area were Extension 9 and 10.

“City Power is confident that electricity supply will be restored in the affected areas before the end of the day.”
