Greytown – A man who raped a mentally disabled teenager was sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday in the Greytown Regional Court, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

The girl, 14, was raped in Msinga in December 2011.

“The victim was walking on the road with other two children when they were accosted by the accused,” police said.

“He grabbed her from behind and chased the children away by throwing stones at them. Then he dragged the victim to the bushes where he assaulted and raped her repeatedly.”

The girl was later found in the bushes after the girl’s friend’s alerted her mother, who in turn contacted police.

“The accused fled the area when he heard that police were looking for him. The dedicated detectives did not give up, they continued with their investigation.”

The rapist was tracked down two years later, arrested, and prosecuted.

“He received life imprisonment after his samples were positively compared with those found on the victim.”
