Controversial businessman Mark Lifman has allegedly not disclosed that he has two previous convictions, the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court has heard.

On Wednesday, prosecutor Piet Steyn said the State would add another charge of failure to disclose previous convictions in the case against Lifman. Steyn did not disclose what the convictions were for.

Lifman and his co-accused, André Naude, appeared in court in connection with charges relating to the contravention of the Private Security Industry Regulations Act.

When Lifman applied for bail in February, his lawyer William Booth said Lifman had no previous convictions, no pending cases and no outstanding warrants.

Booth told the court he was “taken by surprise” when the prosecution notified him that they were adding a charge of non-disclosure of previous convictions.

“Lifman will not be arrested, the charges will just be added and we will deal with the matter when we have the exact details thereof.”
