Polokwane - A police officer from the Bolobedu police station, near Tzaneen, has been shot dead, Limpopo police said on Monday.

Warrant Officer Godfrey Mantlhake, 44, was gunned down by two men as he stood next to his car with his girlfriend on Sunday evening, Colonel Ronel Otto said.

“(He) was shot three times in the head and chest before the suspects fled,” said Otto.

The motive for the attack was not known.
