Verulam– A child rapist was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment this week, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.

The man, 30, was convicted and sentenced on Wednesday for the rape of a teenager in April 2013.

“The rapist was working night shift and requested the victim to look after his house while he was at work,” police said.

“Upon his return he threatened the victim with a knife and raped her. As she screamed, her sister who was in the other room heard and tried to help but was also threatened with the knife.”

Detectives managed to link the rapist to the crime after the teenager reported the incident to police.

Commenting on the sentencing, KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Mmamonnye Ngobeni said: “We would like to give a stern warning to all sexual predators that they will be dealt with accordingly if they prey on vulnerable women and children.”
