Kimberley - A love triangle is believed to be the motive behind the murder of a 30-year-old woman, from Chris Hani Park in Galeshewe, who was stabbed to death over the weekend.

Masego Grace Rens was stabbed, allegedly by her boyfriend with whom she was living with for about seven years, following an argument that started at a nearby tavern.

Rens had thrown the suspect’s clothes into the street and had set them alight, minutes before she was killed.

Her half-naked body was found in a pool of blood on her bed.

The incident took place during the early hours of Saturday morning, while both were apparently under the influence of alcohol.

Tavern patrons indicated that the suspect was seeing another woman for at least two months while still living with the deceased.

“A fight broke out between Rens and another woman, who was at the tavern that night. They exchanged punches, insults and used crude language. After they were separated, the deceased left the tavern, followed by the suspect and the other woman.”

An eyewitness stated that by the time she got to the shanty about 30 minutes later, she found the deceased lying on her back on the bed.

“The upper part of her body was completely naked. I was unable to feel a pulse and closed her eyes when I realised that she was dead. I have not seen the suspect again but I want to encourage him to hand himself over to the police.”

The suspect has fled the scene and has not been seen since.

People who were familiar with the couple indicated that fights and arguments were a regular occurrence, especially on Friday after the suspect had received his wages.

Rens’ landlady indicated that Rens was a patient at Kimberley Hospital because she only had one lung.

“She is survived by two young daughters and a seven-year-old son. I often told him to come and sleep in the house when they were fighting. The children are now living with their father. Rens and the suspect do not have any children.”

Police spokesman, Lieutenant Olebogeng Tawana, said the police in Galeshewe were investigating a case of murder after a 30-year-old woman was stabbed to death.

“The reason behind her murder is unknown at this stage and the investigation is ongoing.

“The incident happened inside the shanty where they were living, between Friday evening and midnight. It is alleged that the victim was stabbed by her boyfriend. The paramedics certified her dead at the scene. The suspect fled the scene after the incident, and no arrests have been made yet. However, we are positive that an arrest will be made soon.”

Anyone with the information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect is requested to contact Constable Paballo Motshepe on 082 469 0138 or 053 807 6144.
