Limpopo - Julius Malema’s right-hand men, Limpopo ANC Youth League secretary Jacob Lebogo and Jossie Buthane, have given the police statements to support the expelled youth leader’s case against his nemesis, Boy Mamabolo.
Malema opened a crimen injuria case against Mamabolo on Monday, after Mamabolo apparently threatened to exhume the body of Malema’s late mother, Mahlodi.
Mamabolo, a fierce supporter of President Jacob Zuma, had accused Malema of instructing Lebogo and Buthane to sleep with his girlfriend, a charge Malema and his friends denied.
On Tuesday, Lebogo hit back, saying Mamabolo was “the most corrupt fraudster who gets protection elsewhere”.
This was in reference to the corruption case that has been opened with the Hawks against Mamabolo.
This comes after a forensic report by the Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture accused Mamabolo of stealing R400 000 from the Limpopo Geographical Names Committee while he was its chairman.
He hasn’t been arrested and formally charged.
Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said corruption investigations against Mamabolo were continuing.
Lebogo said: “Malema is not a pimp (sell-out). He is a leader of our society.
“If that boy suffers from some unknown illness, then he must visit (the) men’s clinic or (the) elders. (They will) help cure him to be able to provide and play (the) role of a man.”
On Tuesday, Mamabolo said he was not concerned about Lebogo and Buthane’s decision to approach the police. “They have opened so many cases against me before,” he said.
Mamabolo added that the two men had a vendetta against him.
In an SMS sent to Malema on Sunday, Mamabolo – once Malema’s closest ally – also appeared to threaten Lebogo and Buthane with death.
“In fact, one of them will die this year. I have never said anything which I didn’t do,” it said.
The message continued: “This time I want to show you that I am more brutal and exhume Mahlodi from the grave and lay her in front of (your grandmother’s house). You have done many bad things to me.”
Mamabolo is no stranger to controversy.
He was arrested and charged with malicious damage to property in Seshego in September. He had allegedly smashed Lebogo’s luxury car by hurling stones at it.
At the time, he said Lebogo had provoked him by parking his car in his neighbourhood during by-elections in the area.
Mamabolo will appear again in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of malicious damage to property.
