Cape Town - Julius Malema has become a crime statistic.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) say the parliamentary office of party leader Malema has been burgled.

EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said that when Malema’s personal assistant returned on Wednesday morning after the winter recess, she found the doors leading to his office wide open, and important files missing.

Ndlozi said: “The files contained sensitive and confidential information of the EFF and the commander in chief.”

The party said the files contain Malema’s travel and security information, sparking security concerns for the EFF.

Ndlozi says there was no sign of a break-in, suggesting that copies of the EFF’s office keys had been obtained.

He added that they have suspects in mind: “As things stand‚ the files which contain the travel and security information of the Commander in Chief [Malema] has disappeared and it looks like it was an inside job.”

Ndlozi said it appears the lock on the door between Malema’s office and that of his PA has been changed as the key no longer works.

He said they have reported the matter both to the police and to National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete.

The EFF hoped and believed the police and Parliamentary Protection Services would thoroughly and independently investigate the burglary.

“We hope that the individuals who broke into the CIC’s office will be caught, arrested and those working with them exposed,” the party said in a statement.
