Potchefstroom - Police have a launched a manhunt for three suspects following a double murder and a robbery at Magogwe Tar Village, Mahikeng, North West police said on Saturday.

A 64-year-old man, believed to be a taxi owner, and his 24-year-old daughter were killed when three assailants entered their house at about 7pm on Friday and shot the man in the head and back before shooting his daughter in the back, SA Police Service spokesman Major Pelonomi Makau said in a statement.

The man’s 14-year-old niece, who was with them in the house, was unharmed and managed to call neighbours for help.

“It is alleged that the suspects took five cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash from the victims before fleeing the scene.

The motive for the murder is still unknown at this stage and investigation into the matter continues,” Makau said.

North West acting Provincial Commissioner Maj-Gen Jacob Tsumane expressed shock and condemned the incident.

“We are saddened by this senseless killing and we will work hard to ensure that those who are responsible are brought to book,” he said.

Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects was asked to call investigating officer Detective Warrant-Officer Nkate on 079- 897-1910 or the Mmabatho police station on 018-3877-500.
