Durban - A man has been sentenced to 22 years in jail by the Ladysmith Regional Court for raping and robbing a woman on her farm near Elandslaagte, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.

Nkosingiphile Emmanuel Nkosi, 19, was sentenced on Monday for the crimes committed on February 14 last year, Major Thulani Zwane said.

Nkosi had gone to the farm and asked about renting a truck from the owners. The woman's husband was not home and she encouraged Nkosi to return the next day, Zwane said.

“Before leaving the farm, he requested a meal and it was provided to him through the burglar gate.”

When he had finished eating, he walked around the house and broke in through a window.

“He raped the woman, then robbed her of a cellphone, a bottle of pepper spray, and a small amount of cash.”
