Malalane - An Mpumalanga man was found guilty by the Boschfontein Regional Court on Wednesday of raping his ex-girlfriend's 10-year-old daughter .

A Sapa correspondent reported that magistrate Edgar Moletsane said Collen Makwanse, 22, from Magogeni village, had contradicted himself and his mother's testimony.

“I don't think the child is lying in court because she knows you very well as you are her neighbour. Your testimony is based on lies,” said Moletsane.

The victim testified she knew the accused well as he previously came to her house and slept with her mother.

She said on the day of the incident, which was on December 1, 2011, the accused called her into his room under the pretext that her mother was calling her.

She said when she entered he locked the door, stuffed a plastic bag into her mouth, put on a condom and raped her.

She further testified that the accused threatened to kill her mother if the girl ever disclosed the rape to anyone.

The accused was arrested on December 24, 2011, and had pleaded not guilty to rape.

Makwanse told the court that the mother of the victim fabricated the charges because he had dumped her.

“I didn't rape her child. I was not around... on that day. This woman is angry that I dumped her and she still wants me back,” he said.

His co-worker, Nkosinathi Mhlanga, earlier testified that the accused's neighbours were framing Makwanse in the rape case.

Moletsane postponed the case to Thursday for sentencing.
