Johannesburg - A man was arrested for allegedly raping a woman and killing a man at a cemetery on the East Rand, Gauteng police said on Thursday.

The 30-year-old was arrested on Wednesday, said Captain Mega Ndobe.

Two men approached the 18-year-old woman and her 24-year-old boyfriend while they at Kwanele park in Katlehong on July 28.

They were taken by force to the nearby cemetery and the men threatened them with knives and a sjambok, said Ndobe.

The woman was raped and her boyfriend severely assaulted.

He was taken to hospital and died upon arrival.

Police arrested one of the alleged attackers. The second was still at large.

The 30-year-old will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
