Johannesburg - Police have arrested a 25-year-old man suspected in the killing of a pregnant mother who was shot in front of her children last month.

Charlotte Ramohai was shot and killed by two men on April 20 during a hijacking outside Khula Nolwazi Primary School in Bramfischerville, Soweto.

The men shot her in the abdomen and drove off in her car, which was later found in a park.

Her 7-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter, as well as children in the school, witnessed her murder.

The suspect, arrested on Tuesday in Soweto, was expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of murder and hijacking.

Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said detectives were still searching for the second gunman.

Makhubela said the police had received a tip-off. He gave no other details.
