Mthatha - A man was arrested in Qina village, Centane for allegedly raping a 63-year-old woman, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Saturday after the woman had visited her brother, said spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha.

“The suspect allegedly accosted the victim and overpowered her. He then allegedly raped her and ran away.”

The woman told her brothers about the rape, who then alerted the police.

The 27-year-old man, who is known to the victim, was tracked down and arrested.

He is expected to appear in the Centane Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a charge of rape.
