East London - A 23-year-old man was on Saturday arrested for allegedly stealing machinery and tools at a construction site in Haven Hills, East London, Eastern Cape police said.

“On April 3 at 2am, five suspects entered the SL Contractors’ site. Two security guards were tied up, the unknown men then allegedly stole some construction machinery and tools,” said police spokesman Captain Stephen Marais.

Police arrested the 23-year-old after following up on leads.

The stolen equipment was estimated to be valued between R120 000 and R150 000, Marais said.

The man is expected to appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to face charges of theft.
