Cape Town - A 43-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday when he was caught allegedly transporting nearly R1 million worth of tik.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Andrè Traut said members of the Western Cape Flying Squad pulled over a vehicle on the N1 near Goodwood on Tuesday afternoon, after they received information about drugs being transported.

Traut said after searching the suspect’s vehicle they found three 1kg bags of tik, with an estimated value of R900 000.

“The suspect, a Nigerian national, was arrested. He is due in court on a charge of dealing in drugs once he has been charged.”

Meanwhile, police said 31 cases of the possession of drugs, with an estimated street value of R55 000, were reported by the Darling police over the weekend during the annual Rocking the Daisies festival, attended by about 22 000 people.

The drugs included magic mushrooms, cocaine, ecstasy, MDMA (Methylenedioxyphenethylamine), LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) and dagga.
