Johannesburg - A man was arrested after he alleged shot dead a police officer in Nyanga, police said on Saturday.

The 38-year-old police detective constable was shot around 6.30pm on Friday, while pursuing the man, who was wanted in connection with several murder cases, Captain Frederick van Wyk said.

“The member died on the scene due to injuries sustained. A swift response by the police resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect.”

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation.”

The 27-year-old was expected to appear in court on Monday. - Sapa
