Johannesburg -

A man was shot and wounded on Saturday during an armed robbery at his jewellery store in Kimberley, Northern Cape police said.

Lieutenant Andrea Cloete said two men, one of them apparently dressed in police uniform, entered the shop at the corner of Long and Black Streets and held the owner at gunpoint.

Cloete said the men demanded all the jewellery.

When the owner refused, a scuffle ensued between him and one of the robbers.

“The owner was shot in his leg and thereafter the suspects tied his hands and feet and ransacked the shop. They escaped in a white BMW.”

Police were searching for the men and appealed to the public for information that could lead to their arrest. - Sapa
