Cape Town - A Cape Town man allegedly killed his girlfriend and then kept her body in his shack for two days.

Mandla Makhenyana, who is suspected of bashing Pamela Mbambisa’s head against a wall, handed himself over to police days after the attack.

Mbambisa’s body was found on Sunday afternoon after suspicious neighbours broke into the shack in Dyushu Street in Philippi.

Residents said they had heard screams coming from the shack on Friday night, but never saw Mbambisa, 33, leave.

Relatives said Makhenyana, 44, handed himself over to police on Sunday after admitting to his older brother that he had beaten the mother of two to death.

He was charged with murder and appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. He is expected back in court on May 27 for a bail application.

Mbambisa’s aunt Nosiphiwo Mbambisa, 59, said they found her niece’s body on a bed at the accused’s house on Sunday.

“I had just come from church when I noticed a lot of people at my house and at his house,” Mbambisa said.

“My neighbours told me Pamela was dead, so I quickly ran to his house and found her there. Her whole face and head were swollen.

“This homeowner’s other tenant was apparently there when the two of them started fighting on Friday night and he tried to break it up when he saw that Pamela had fainted and had even urinated on herself.

“Her boyfriend kicked the tenant out and didn’t allow anyone in the shack for the entire weekend.

“He spent two nights with her corpse and didn’t bother telling anyone.”

Mbambisa said the couple were heavy drinkers who fought all the time when they were drunk.

“She would often come home with a torn lip or a blue eye and I warned her time and again... and then eventually this happened,” she added.

“But all we want is for him to come out and bury her, everything else is out of our hands.”
