Johannesburg - A KFC takeaway meal, a belt, a jacket, a bank card, a cellphone, money and shoes.

These were some of the items taken from an Ivory Park couple shortly after the woman was raped by one of the two men who had hijacked them on May 22, 2011.

The men did not withdraw any money from the boyfriend’s bank card after the couple were released later that night.

Three years later, on Monday, the boyfriend took to the witness stand in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

He was testifying against alleged serial rapist Justice Albert Morake.

Morake has pleaded not guilty to the 175 charges he is facing. These included 53 counts of kidnapping, 27 of robbery with aggravating circumstances, 34 of rape, 12 of sexual offences and related matters, two attempted murders, four of grievous bodily harm, seven of theft, eight of unlawful possession of ammunition and 28 of unlawful possession of firearms.

The boyfriend told the court that he could not point out or remember the faces of the men who had hijacked him. He said one of the men had had a firearm.

The same man drove them to a dumping site, he said.

His belt was removed and used by one of the men to tie his hands just before they were driven to the site, he said. The witness told the court he was ordered to place his head between his knees.

He said the driver had left him behind with his accomplice at the dumping site, and walked away with his girlfriend.

He returned with the victim about 20 minutes later. He was untied and ordered to drive away.

He said the men told him they would shoot and kill him if he did not leave immediately. His girlfriend later told him that she was raped by one of the men.

A Tembisa detective, Warrant Officer Andre van der Walt, said he was asked to conduct an identity parade shortly after Morake was arrested.

The trial continues.
