Johannesburg - A 19-year-old matric pupil is expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on a charge of armed robbery, Gauteng police said.

“The matric pupil was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) after he and his two friends were terrorising the community by robbing them of their cellphones and money while pointing a firearm (at them),” Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

The pupil was arrested in Jabulani, Soweto, in possession of an R5 rifle.

“Four different people opened cases of armed robbery. One managed to spot the boy and the boy was followed to his home and arrested,” Makhubela said.

Police were still looking for the teenager's two friends.
