Cape Town - A woman claims McDonald’s gave her fake money, and then accused her of being crook.

The Cape Town woman said she got very upset when staff at the Ottery branch of the takeaway franchise accused her of trying to pay with a false R100 note.

Rushana Miseroole, 28, says she got the money from the McDonald’s teller when she paid with a R200 and was given R100 change.

An upset Rushana has since laid a charge of fraud against the international fast food giant, saying they will pay for treating her like a “common criminal”.

Rushana said that she and her family went to McDonald’s on September 26, where they had burgers, chips, Coke, and a chocolate sundae – and then ordered some extra food to take away.

“My mom first bought some stuff which amounted to R94, I gave her a R200 note to pay,” she said.

“The change was still folded in the slip and I handed that R100 to my [younger] sister to purchase the stuff we were taking away.

“They then accused us of purchasing with false money, but they gave me that money. I started screaming and shouting and was so embarrassed.

“The staff were laughing and the other customers were looking at us.”

Rushana said that she insisted the manager call the police, and they waited four hours for cops to arrive to take their statements.

But McDonald’s Ottery manager, Florence Xawuka, 35, says Rushana and her family tried to con her staff.

Florence said: “They bought stuff with four different notes, paying separately for everything and they were together.

“They made five different purchases and tried to trick us.

“We have note detectors at all the tills and never accept fake money.

“We called the police as she did not want to leave.”

But a furious Rushana insists she is the victim: “I am going to sue them for defamation. They cannot look me in the eyes and then tell me to take my false money and go.”

Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said: “I can confirm that the fraud case is still under investigation and no one has been arrested as yet.”
