Johannesburg - The trial of a man who is accused of killing Anni Dewani is expected to continue in the Western Cape High Court on Monday.

Xolile Mngeni has pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, murder, and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A new witness was expected to testify on Monday.

Last Thursday, Mngeni's childhood friend, whose identity was withheld for fear of reprisal, said the accused told him he had shot a woman, robbed her off her cellphone and stole a brown Nokia in the same area.

The witness said Mngeni did not mention who the woman was and he did not say what her name was.

Dewani was shot dead in Gugulethu in an apparent hijacking while on honeymoon with her husband Shrien.

Their hijacked vehicle was abandoned in Ilitha Park. - Sapa
