Durban - A 33-year-old man suspected of being a rapist was beaten and stabbed to death by a mob on Thursday morning.
A large crowd had gathered at the Reservoir Hills M19 off-ramp, said Clare Estate resident Dennis Pillay.
“Residents were frantic. When I got there at 6am I saw a naked man lying on the floor surrounded by people. Planks, rocks and sticks were strewn around. He had open wounds on his head.
“People claimed that he was a rapist. Unknown people broke his shack door and dragged him out to the roadside. The man had only his socks on.”
The unidentified man was found with stab wounds all over his body, said police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker.
“A case of murder is being investigated by Sydenham SAPS,” he said.
