Johan Kotze's lawyers have portrayed the so-called Modimolle Monster as a man driven mad by love.
Kotze has denied that he orchestrated the gang rape of his estranged wife, Ina Bonette. Instead, Kotze says he tried to rescue her from his three co-accused.
