Kimberley - A mother accused of killing her baby was found guilty by the Northern Cape High Court on Thursday, police said.

“Geogina Precious Rooibaatjie,33, gave birth to a baby boy in September 2011 and put the infant in a bucket of water with the intention to drown him,” said Lieutenant Sergio Kock.

Kock said Rooibaatjie then took the baby out of the bucket and attempted to flush him down a toilet.

“The baby was too big to be flushed. She then put the baby in a green plastic bag and hid him under the bed,” he said.

Police received information of bad odours coming from the house.

“Police found a dead infant under the bed and the mother was immediately arrested,” said Kock.

Post mortem results indicated that the baby died of multiple injuries to his skull, ribs and hips.

Rooibaatjie will be sentenced on December 5.
