Pretoria - Three more explosives were found in Pretoria West on Tuesday , a day after an explosion killed one person at a scrapyard in Rebecca Street.

Police spokesman Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said a security guard working at the Pretoria West High School said he saw three men carrying bags. He was suspicious and stopped them, but they dropped the bags and fled.

“The guard opened the bags and found the explosives. He called the police, who then called the explosives unit who discovered two projectiles and one mortar,” said Mofokeng. “We have not opened a case as we are still busy with investigating what happened this morning. We are appealing once again to the community to help us with any information regarding the incident this morning.”

On Monday a Cameroonian national, Isaiah Che, who was working at a scrapyard was killed when a cannon projectile exploded as he was attempting to grind it open.

Witnesses and residents said fragments of his flesh had been found scattered in the street and on the pavement after the blast.

The Pretoria News contacted the owner of the establishment and he refused to comment, saying he just owned the property and didn’t know much about what was going on. Amin, as he identified himself then referred the Pretoria News to the dead man’s brother.

Che’s brother, Franklin Nji said the family were horrified by the death.

Nji spoke briefly to the Pretoria News but said they were busy with funeral arrangements.

“We are saddened by what happened. We are left speechless at horrified by his death,” he said.

Nji said plans were in place to take his brother's remains back to Cameroon. Fifteen shells were found on Monday, six of which were still active.

Residents said two men had been trying to sell the shells to other scrap metal dealers on Rebecca Street, but had failed. They had only succeeded at the scrapyard where Che worked.
