Mahikeng - Slain North West businessman Wandile Bozwana was a humble man, a friend said at his memorial service in Mahikeng on Thursday.

“We have lost. We are crying for Wandile Bozwana. We do not need anyone to dictate to us how to cry, when and where,” Themba Gwebeni told mourners, friends and business associates gathered at Montshiwa Stadium in Mahikeng.

He said the community must press government to find and arrest the suspects who killed Bozwana.

“We have lost men and women in the quest for democracy. If we see things are going astray, we must correct it. It is the same with the government… people think they are doing us a favour. Politicians must be held accountable,” he said to applause from the mourners.

“If you were able to raise your finger in the apartheid government, who can tell you not to raise your voice in a democratic government?” he asked.

Bozwana was gunned down in his car in Pretoria on Friday afternoon in what was suspected to be a hit. Gunman fired bullets into the passenger side where he was seated, hitting him at least nine times. He died in hospital.

Some mourners wore white T-shirts with Bozwana’s face printed on the front, and the words, “Visionary leader, man with a great mind”, were emblazoned on the back.
