Johannesburg - A 19-year-old man accused of killing two people with a hammer appeared in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, Mpumalanga police said.

Adam Muller, 19, appeared on charges of double murder and three counts of attempted murder. Muller’s appearance comes after he was arrested by police for attacking five people with a hammer, police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said.

It is alleged that Muller started attacking people while walking down a street in Secunda.

“First to be attacked was a couple that sustained severe head injuries. He further attacked three men shortly thereafter. All five victims were rushed to hospital for medical treatment and two of the men succumbed to their injuries.”

Muller was arrested shortly after the attacks were reported to the police.

“The motive for the attack is not yet known and police are investigating,” Mohlala said.

The trial was postponed to April 28. Muller remains in custody.
