Johannesburg - A man will appear in the Mkobola Magistrate's Court, near KwaMhlanga, on Tuesday charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Mpumalanga police said.

The 37-year-old woman's body was found in a shallow grave in his vegetable garden, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said.

She was reported missing on Sunday. On Monday, police approached her boyfriend and questioned him about her whereabouts.

“It appeared that the man tried to be evasive and told the police that his girlfriend last went to withdraw money from a bank and never returned.

“The police searched around the house, and at the back yard, where there is a vegetable garden, they noticed that the soil was recently worked on.

“When questioned what was he doing in the garden, he said that he was planting beetroot seeds.”

The police ordered him to bring a shovel so that they could see and confirm his claim. The man then allegedly confessed to killing the woman and burying her in the garden.
