An alleged drug mule who flew in from South America has been arrested at Cape Town International Airport with cocaine worth R390 000.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut said the woman was found to have 1.3kg in cocaine concealed in her luggage.

“This morning at 11.45 a 31-year-old Namibian woman who resides in Parklands was arrested at Cape Town International Airport in possession of 1.3kg of cocaine with a street value of approximately R390 000,” he said on Monday.

“The suspect arrived in South Africa on a flight from South America. Her luggage was searched when she appeared suspicious, and the contraband was discovered hidden in the handles of her suitcases.

“She is being detained until her court appearance in Bellville, once she has been charged.”

Traut said the circumstances surrounding the matter were being investigated.
