Johannesburg - “I can’t go to prison! I will be killed if I go there.”

These were the words of murder-accused Daluxolo Sihlali, who appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Sihlali was supposed to appear for his bail application on Thursday, but it was postponed to September 18 after the magistrate ruled that he be taken to a district surgeon and undergo preliminary mental observation.

The 41-year-old allegedly stabbed his 58-year-old mother, Dorina Sihlali, to death. It is still unclear when the crime was committed.

He was arrested on September 2 at the home they shared in Naturena, south of Joburg.

Sihlali created a scene and lifted his clothing to show the court what he said were bruises he had on his body from an assault he claims happened in prison.

“The court has never charged me guilty. Why can’t I go to my doctor?” he said.

Asked who his doctor was, Sihlali said a certain Dr Naidoo in Naturena would be able to help him. He told the magistrate that he refused to see the prison doctor because he had already consulted with him.

“I went to the doctor on Tuesday morning and my body was already swelling and I was feeling even more pain. Take me to different prison cells,” he asked.

Sihlali said the doctor had told him he was bipolar instead of treating his bruises.

The magistrate explained to Sihlali that he would be taken to see two doctors on Monday - a prison doctor and a district surgeon.
