Johannesburg - Several people have been questioned about the murder of newly-weds Wamukelwe Zuma-Memela, 29, and Wendy Campbell-Memela, 28.
The couple were killed in their Bryanston, Sandton, home on Thursday night after they were robbed of some of their belongings and their car was stolen.
Zuma-Memela’s father, government spokesman and author Sandile Memela, said the killers strangled the couple with electrical wires and made off with household goods and their Audi A3 car.
Zuma-Memela was an award-winning chef and owned catering and events company Drizzle and Dazzle with his wife.
Their bodies were discovered in a bedroom on Friday morning by Zuma-Memela’s cousin, who lives in a cottage on the property.
Their car was recovered in Natalspruit, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday.
On Tuesday, Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane visited the families of the dead couple to update them on the investigation.
“We have done quite a lot of work trying to track down the perpetrators. We hope that very soon we will be able to arrest the perpetrators,” said Nkosi-Malobane.
She said the investigating team was following every lead and had interviewed people the family had asked to be investigated.
“We have tried to see if there is any link between them and this case. We are confident that with the team we have put together we will be able to arrest those people. The family want to find closure to know who is responsible for this.
“They also want to make sure whoever is behind the murder is arrested and goes to trial, where the truth will be revealed,” she said.
Police did not know on Tuesday how many criminals were in the house that night.
Nkosi-Malobane said Bryanston was an area prone to house robberies and hijackings.
A memorial service will be held at His People Church in Parktown at 5.30pm on Thursday and the funeral service at Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre in Kibler Park from 8.30am to 11.30am on Saturday.
