Johannesburg - Aimee Pistorius has denied reports that her brother paralympian Oscar Pistrorius received special treatment for his 28th birthday at the Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria.

“I am dumbfounded at the false and irresponsible reporting in some newspapers today [Sunday],” she said on Twitter.

“Facts: Carl & I had a 45 minute non-contact visit with Oscar yesterday [Saturday] as all our visits have been non-contact thus far, per regulations.”

The Sunday Times reported that Aimee and her brother Carl were allowed to bring the former Blade Runner a string of balloons, a gift bag and a cake purchased outside the prison.

It reported that the siblings visited Pistorius for almost two hours, despite departmental guidelines stipulating visits were not allowed to exceed an hour.

The newspaper further claimed the siblings' cars were allowed into the prison grounds without it being searched, and that they were allowed to use another exit to avoid the newspaper's photographer.

Said Aimee on Twitter: “My brother received NOTHING that was not allowed by prison regulations for group B prisoners. No cake or perishables present at all.

“In fact, he only received toiletries and letters on his birthday and we took some balloons to SHOW him through the glass divider. We are respectful of the rules. The correctional officers have been courteous but stern - as their position requires.”

Correctional services spokesman Logan Maistry on Sunday said Pistorius was not getting preferential treatment, but the department would nevertheless investigate the allegations.

Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison in the High Court in Pretoria after being found guilty of culpable homicide of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. For discharging a firearm at Tasha's restaurant in January 2013, he was sentenced to three years in jail, suspended for five years. The sentences would run concurrently.
