Johannesburg - The Nelson Mandela bridge in Braamfontein was reopened on Thursday afternoon following a bomb scare earlier, the Johannesburg metro police department said.

“Officers found no bomb on the bridge, it has been reopened,” Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

Earlier, Minnaar said the bridge had been completely blocked off while police searched it.

They were alerted to the threat shortly after 4.30pm.
