Pretoria - Former apartheid-era police colonel Eugene de Kock has been denied parole, Justice and Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha said on Thursday.

This was because the families of some of his victims were not consulted during the parole process, he told reporters on Pretoria.

“It became clear that none of the affected families of the victims were consulted,” said Masutha.

“In light of the above, I am of the view that it is fair... that the families are afforded the opportunity to participate in the process. I have not approved parole at this stage.”

He recommended that a further parole report be re-submitted “no later than 12 months from today, instead of the two-year period prescribed by law”. - Sapa
