Cape Town - A 35-year-old convicted rapist was recently sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, North West police said on Tuesday.

“On Monday, Taung District Court sentenced a 35-year-old Thakadu Keoagile to 20 years in prison for housebreaking and three counts of rape,” said police’s provincial spokesperson Kelebogile Moleko.

Keoagile was sentenced for the February 2014 rape of a 23-year-old woman in Dryharts Village near Pudimoe, North West.

He had broken into her home and covered the victim’s face with a pillow while he raped her.

This was not Keoagile’s first crime, Moleko said: “The accused was on correctional supervision after being found guilty of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm by Schweizer Reneke Regional Court and was sentenced to five years imprisonment on February 4 2010. He was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.”
