Pretoria - Oscar Pistorius is reportedly surviving on tinned food in prison which he buys himself – because he fears getting poisoned.

The fallen Olympic hero’s new diet of chakalaka veggies is a far cry from the caviar and champagne he is used to.

You magazine reported this week that the convicted killer started buying the tinned food at the prison tuckshop after he received threats from inside the Kgosi Mampuru II prison that he would be poisoned.

According to the report, Pistorius has lost so much weight that his prosthetic legs no longer fit.

A prosthetics expert says ill-fitting prostheses can lead to blisters, sores and infection on Pistorius’s residual limbs.

Pistorius also doesn’t bother to speak to other inmates.

His only buddy is Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir, who is currently awaiting trial.

Because he hasn’t been convicted yet, Krejcir still has access to privileges like a TV and exercise equipment.

But Pistorius is so depressed that he is not making use of his friend’s generous offer to use the equipment.

He is staying in a single cell in the hospital wing, which according to other inmates, is like a “bachelor flat” compared to regular cells.

“He has no contact with other inmates... there where people fight and stab each other,” an reportedly said.

Pistorius’s toilet is also right next to his bed.

But he doesn’t have the luxury of a bath, as plans by prison authorities to build one especially for him were abandoned quickly after other inmates complained that he was receiving special treatment.

It’s expected that he will be out on parole in October, serving out the rest of his five-year sentence under correctional supervision.

The State is appealing his conviction and sentence.
