Mbombela - A man who raped a woman three months after being released on parole has been sentenced to another 15 years in jail.

John Tibane, 33, from Matsulu near Malalane, had served five years of a 10-year sentence for an earlier rape conviction before being granted parole, a Sapa correspondent reported.

But three months later, around midnight on April 5, 2014, he raped an 18-year-old woman.

He was found guilty in the Nelspruit Regional Court on Thursday.

Magistrate Willie Wilkins said Tibane, who pleaded not guilty, showed remorse and asked for forgiveness only after being found guilty of the charge.

“You should have done that from the onset. You committed the crime three months after you were out on parole. It seems the 10

years imposed did not deter you at all,” Wilkins said.

Wilkins said the accused was linked to the charge by DNA evidence.

The court was also satisfied with the evidence of four witnesses as well as the complainant.

“You are sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and are not to be released on parole before serving half the sentence,” he said.
