Durban - The bodies of a Pietermaritzburg couple were found badly decomposed at their home in Northdale on Tuesday, in what is believed to be a case of murder and suicide.

Surenthren (Candy) Naicker, 38, allegedly shot himself and his wife, Desiree Naicker, 35, in their bedroom, a police source said.

Surenthren had been reported missing this week by a friend.

Police went to the couple’s house in Surat Place to speak to Desiree. They found the gate locked and called the fire department for assistance. Members cut the lock and opened the gate, but the door was locked from the inside.

After breaking a window, they gained entry to the house.

Neighbours the police spoke to said they had last seen the couple on December 14.

It is unknown when the shootings took place.

Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker confirmed that the bodies had been found. He said charges of murder and an inquest docket had been opened.
