Cape Town - Police are hunting for the killers of Jayde Panayiotou, whose body was found near KwaNobuhle in Uitenhage on Wednesday.

A photo of a man police are calling a “person of interest” has been doing the rounds on social media.

According to HeraldLive, the photo is a screengrab of ATM footage.

It was previously reported that two men withdrew money from Panayiotou’s bank account

Police have confirmed that the man is wanted for questioning, but deny he is a suspect in the murder investigation, an online report said.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg was quoted as saying: “He is a person of interest and we believe he can assist us with the investigation into this matter.”

Panayiotou’s body was found on Wednesday morning after she had reportedly been abducted from outside her complex in Port Elizabeth early on Tuesday morning.

A huge social media drive was launched to find the 28-year-old. A reward was also offered for her safe return.

On Wednesday, Eastern Cape provincial police said the body of Panayiotou, 28, a teacher at Riebeek College Girls’ High School in Uitenhage had been found at around 10am on Wednesday.

“The helicopter crew that was participating in the search for her, noticed an object in an isolated area near KwaNobuhle Township in Uitenhage,” police said in a statement.

SAPS said further investigations by members on the ground led to the recovery of the body.

A post mortem would indicate the cause of death, police said.
