Johannesburg - He broke down in tears, apologised and shared his pain with dozens of listeners and relatives of wanted Soweto radio DJ Donald Sebolai.

“I am so hurt and emotional. On behalf of Jozi FM, we are sorry, very sorry,” said Rapitse Montsho, chairman of the Jozi FM board.

Montsho’s words brought tears to Sebolai’s mother, Elizabeth, who sat in the front row of the YMCA hall in Dube, Soweto, where a prayer service was held for staff and residents, who were left in shock following the incident.

Before he finished his speech, Montsho burst into tears, capturing the emotions of almost every woman who had arrived for the service, among whom were members of the ANC Women’s League.

Pastors preached and mourners sang, prayed and pleaded to Sebolai to return and hand himself over.

Sebolai is wanted for the murder of his girlfriend, Rachel “Dolly” Tshabalala (nee Marawa), whose body was discovered in the Jabulani flat of the Jozi FM presenter on Sunday. He has been on the run since then, and is believed to have fled to North West.

On Tuesday, police offered a R50 000 reward to anyone with information regarding his whereabouts.

On Thursday morning, thousands of listeners were greeted by Andrew Tshaka’s voice on the popular Mid-Morning Chat instead of Sebolai.

Meanwhile, a few kilometres away from the station, mourners gathered at St Francis of Assisi Anglican Church in Moroka, where the Marawa and Tshabalala families attended a memorial service.

Tshabalala will be buried on Saturday. The funeral service will be held at 7am at the same church.
