Johannesburg - A 14-year-old schoolboy has been arrested for allegedly stabbing and wounding a fellow pupil at a school in Nancefield, near Lenasia, Gauteng police said on Monday.

A fight broke out between two boys before the start of a music class at the Zerowa Christian Academy, spokesman Constable Sibusiso Chauke said in a statement.

The alleged attacker, a 14-year-old Grade Eight boy, threw a stone at the 16-year-old victim. The older boy wanted to retaliate, but the teacher intervened. Despite this the 14-year-old produced an Okapi knife and stabbed him.

The 14-year-old then threw the knife over the fence. Teachers apprehended him and found the knife. The boy was arrested around 12.30pm and charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was taken to a place of safety and expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
