East London - A man was sentenced in the Butterworth Regional Court to one year in prison for culpable homicide, Eastern Cape police said on Thursday.

Luvo Sibusiso Ciliwe, 29, was accused of stabbing Sivuyile Jobe, 35, near a tavern at the Skiet informal settlement on April 25 last year, said Captain Jackson Manatha.

Jobe died the next day in a Butterworth hospital.

“The Butterworth Regional Court found the accused person guilty of culpable homicide today.”

Ciliwe was fined R2000 or one year's imprisonment. He was further sentenced to four years' imprisonment, which was suspended for three years on condition that he was not found guilty of violence during the suspension period.
