Durban - A 34-year-old man accused of raping and murdering two women was denied bail in the Camperdown Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday.

National Prosecuting Authority spokeswoman Natasha Ramkisson said that the man was remanded in custody until July 29.

On June 15, the naked bodies of two woman, who appeared to have been strangled and raped, were found in the rural Drummond area on the western outskirts of Durban.

Police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said that the man was arrested in Hillcrest after he was linked to the murders with the help of DNA sampling.

He faces two counts of murder and two counts of rape. The man cannot be named until he pleads to the charges.
