RAPE SUSPECT THREATENS TO KILL COP

A Mpumalanga rape suspect, believed to be mentally-ill, threatened to kill a police officer on Wednesday if he is not immediately sentenced.

"I am sick and tired of being referred back to Weskoppies 1/8psychiatric hospital in Pretoria 3/8, why don't you sentence me since you said I raped someone?" Fanie Freddy Ndlovu, 23, of Mangweni village, told the Tonga Magistrate's Court.

"I don't want to come back to this court again otherwise I will kill this policeman who is trying to take me back to the holding cells."

Ndlovu was arrested on November 8, 2013, after a minor was raped at his home, a Sapa correspondent reported.

It was not the first time that Ndlovu lost his cool in court.

On Wednesday, he also threatened a court orderly, telling him that he was annoying him.

"I am going to kill you now," he shouted.

Ndlovu previously pleaded not guilty to rape but asked the court to change his plea following his psychiatric assessment. He has not yet been allowed to change the plea.

Magistrate Sibonisiwe Sibuyi ignored his outbursts and told the court that only psychiatric results would prove that the accused was mentally ill.

Ndlovu would remain in custody until January 14 when the psychiatric results would be available in court.
